Regional Concurrent Disorders Program

Program Overview

The Regional Concurrent Disorders Program strives to develop, support and integrate a district and regional care continuum in the specialty of Concurrent Disorders with linkages to provincial and regional mental health and addiction system planning networks. This continuum of services will be integrated to such a degree that patients will be able to access appropriate mental health, addictions, and concurrent disorders services regardless of the point of entry into the system. Mental health and addiction agencies will work collaboratively with district based concurrent disorders clinicians to meet the needs of each patient ensuring the elimination of service gaps across the northeast Ontario region.

Services Offered

The Primary function of the Regional Concurrent Disorders Program is to support the development of local capacity, integrate concurrent disorders services within district mental health and addiction systems and ensure these specialized services utilize current research, knowledge and best practices. The program will not provide direct service to patients but intends to impact patient care through clinical supervision and consultation with district based clinicians throughout the region.

The Regional Concurrent Disorders Program is concerned with:

  • Promoting Integration
  • Assessment and Treatment
  • Short Term Interventions
  • Long Term Interventions
  • Family and Peer Support
  • Health Promotion and Prevention

Referral Process

It is the intention of the Regional Concurrent Disorders Program to invite and encourage membership and partnerships with any and all district based mental health and addiction agencies that provide care to individuals with concurrent disorders. Regional patients may also include existing staff at schedule 1 hospitals, community mental health programs, addiction agencies, and regional mental health programs across northeast Ontario.
