Vision
Our vision is to move forward to assist the evolution of NEMHC Medical Research into a recognized Academic Health Science Centre (Centre of Excellence) bringing Translational Medicine to mental health care in northeastern Ontario. The Northeast Ontario Mental Health Science Centre (NEMHC) would serve as a hub linking academic, research and clinical centres together in a joint effort to deliver the golden standard of evidence-based patient care.
What does this mean for you?
Persons in care
NEMHC will attract top quality health-care professionals to the region, which translates into true excellence in the deliverance of care. It will also promote a culture of safety and maximize the use of technology.
Health-care partners
Strong health research networks are more capable of translating innovations into cost-effective health services, modern and internationally competitive policy and regulatory frameworks, new products, and health promotion activities. NEMHC will encourage collaboration, interdisciplinary exchange and strengthen relationships among partners.
Community
NEMHC will contribute to economic stability, growth and prosperity. Innovation derived from medical research leads to discovery and therapeutic applications, which fuel industry and economic growth. The formation of an alliance will also help to fill an identified service gap in northeast Ontario in terms of patient care and improve access to clinically excellent services.
Areas of Excellence
The Department of Medical Research is currently broken down into three main areas of research excellence including Functional Neuroimaging, Molecular Neuroscience and Applied Research. Collectively, these areas form the foundation of clinical research and related trials, quality improvement initiatives and program evaluation activities.
